Reading: This week in reading, we will wrap up bend 1 and begin bend 11 of our nonfiction reading unit. Your reader will learn that they can use morphology to tackle tricky words. Readers will study and consider texts at many different levels. As well as learn that they can think about how texts are built at the smallest level--the sentence level--to how part of a text is built to how the entire text is built. Readers will learn to monitor their own comprehension, and when they notice their comprehension breaking down, they rely on a toolkit of strategies to help get themselves unstuck. Lastly, we will focus on summarizing complex texts.
Writing:  This week in writing, we will revise by using timelines. Students will learn that they will need to continue to keep in mind the qualities of good writing while keeping in mind the qualities of good history. Writers will also learn that it is important to take stock and self-assess. Students will make a plan to fill in any gaps they may have in their research.
Math: This week in math, we will continue multiplying decimals. You may see your 5th grader using one or more of the following strategies to find products; estimation, grids, partial products, multiplication properties, number sense, and reasoning.
